About us

We are creative friends Heather Everitt and Tracey Benton and we’ve joined forces to launch a hub for craft kits designed by fellow independent artists and makers from across the UK. Talented makers sharing unique designs from their creative studios, that you can make yourself from the comfort of your own home.

The idea for Contemporary Craft Kits came about completely by chance over a friendly natter and giant slices of cake. Which, quite frankly, is the very best way of coming up with a business plan.

Tracey was already turning some of her needle felted sculptures into project boxes and Heather was in the process of turning some of the projects from her embroidery workshops into kits.

‘We then got chatting about which of our creative friends were also doing workshops and making kits and hit upon the idea of working collaboratively with other artists and makers from the contemporary craft scene,’ said Tracey.

‘We’ll be offering completely original designs across a range of creative disciplines from professional artists and makers from across the UK. What better way to learn a new skill, than from someone who is is at the top of their game and making a living from their craft?’ added Heather.

Heather is particularly well known for her embroidered butterflies using silks or Liberty fabrics and her work is stocked in galleries across the UK as well as in the London flagship store Liberty. She has designed a series of kits for both hand and machine stitching using her trademark applique process.

Tracey will be sharing original designs for needle felted animal sculptures from her Benton’s Menagerie felting studio. Many of the sculptures have been best sellers in galleries and at shows. There are a range of projects suitable for beginners as well as those with felting experience. You can buy one-off project boxes as well as subscribe to a beginner’s felting course, which introduces new techniques with each project. Tutorials are delivered by detailed online videos.

We’re really excited to be working with our creative friends and will be introducing craft kits new artists and makers throughout the coming year, as well as having some one-off exclusive limited edition guest maker kits.
